Meet Julie Denning. Julie has been hard at work for Howard's Kitchen Studio as the lead Design Consultant at our Mariemont showroom since 2014 and we are very grateful to have her on our team. We sat down with Julie and asked her to share a bit about her experience, inspiration and interests.
Awards & Accolades: Julie served as Vice President of Membership for The National Kitchen + Bath Association from 2016-2017
Julie's specialties: CAPS certification for Certified Aging In Place-universal space-planning; working with paints/custom finishes has fine-tuned my skill using color palettes, surface finishes and textures; practice has honed my skill in scale, balance and proportion in space-planning kitchens and baths. Listening to the needs and desires of the client and bringing their project to life
What make's Howard's Kitchen Studio stand out from other design centers? HKS is a fixture in the community. It's a local business with a hometown feel that people keep coming back to-even if just to reminisce with the owner! We have repeat clients who's parents were clients. Having been in the business for so long, the products we offer are timeless as well, keeping the lines that are of great quality and last over time, and eliminating products and services that are sub-par. Our long-term commitment and experience allows us to competitively price our products. Our project team strives to complete our projects in a timely manner but never compromising the quality of a project and will see it through to the end
Where do you look for inspiration? Nature is the first place I look for inspiration - have you seen the colors and patterns found in the creation of various animals, mammals, birds and fish? As well as rocks, shells, the sky and water? I also appreciate the works of Micheal Graves, Frank Lloyd Wright and Candice Olson. Fashion gives me a hint of what's to come as well. KBIS and Merchandise Mart of Chicago are also great resources for current product and design. As an NKBA member, I receive various Kitchen And Bath News and Surface publications
Describe your dream project? Every project is a dream project! It is the client's dream and it's our mission to make that dream come to fruition. When it comes together smoothly and with an ecstatic client in the end, it's definitely a dream project
"Design is my passion. From the informal introduction by my creative mother and grandmother, to my formal education at EKU, to the practical application from my career, I live, eat and breathe design. I aspire to be an accomplished designer even if that means I've improved the lives and lifestyles of my clients. I work with determination, a work-smart attitude and a work-hard ethic. My other interests only enhance my appreciation for design. My love for nature and the outdoors, travel, hiking and running are just a few of my interests. How can one hike the Grand Canyon or the Red Rocks of Sedona and not be awed by the design? I am also fond of animals and work with children, volunteering when I can. I have a penchant for jewelry, an appreciation for artistic as well as fine jewelry. Many projects I worked on while in Arizona in the 90's such as maintaining the artwork at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Tempe and coordinating the Red Rocks Museum project kept me close to the things I love. Like a blank canvas or a work of art, design is ever-evolving, ever-changing and I love every minute of the process." - Julie Denning
